How much is car sales tax in Wyoming?

Wyoming charges a 4% state sales or use tax on vehicles, plus any county option tax where you live. The other major cost is the county registration fee, which is based on the vehicle's factory price and drops over the first six years.

Take the price minus your trade-in and multiply by 4% plus your county's rate. The rate comes from your principal residence, not the dealer's county. Pay within 65 days of purchase.

County registration is 3% of the factory price shown on the title, multiplied by an age factor: 60% in year one, 50% in year two, 40%, 30%, 20% and then 15% from year six. It's based on the factory price, not what you paid or Blue Book.

State registration is $30 for passenger cars and light trucks, and the title is $15.

  1. Taxable = price - trade-in
  2. Tax = taxable x combined rate for residence locality
  3. County registration = max($5, 3% x factory price x age factor)
  4. Total = tax + title + state registration + county registration + lien + VIN inspection + doc fee
